Use It or Lose It! – The Scoop on Flexible Spending Accounts

FSA (Flexible Spending Account) Goldfarb Chiropractic and Acupuncture Center

With over a month to go before the year ends, and based on your current health plan, you may either join a Flexible Spending account (FSA) or a Health Savings Account (HSA) program. In this article, I'd like to make you aware of all the chiropractic services these programs cover and remind you to use your entire FSA budget before it’s too late.

The FSA/HSA provides coverage for Chiropractic services

An overwhelming number of people have the impression that chiropractic treatments aren’t covered by FSA and HSA programs. The aim of Chiropractic therapy is to enhance your overall wellbeing and health and boost your quality of life. Long term healing can be experienced and future injuries averted when muscles, nerves, and joints of your body are properly aligned.

Aside from helping in the management of pain, chiropractic therapies have so much more to offer. You can opt for a drug-free and natural form of pain relief by utilizing chiropractic therapies to help restore your health and balance.

What’s the difference between FSA and HAS?

FSA: Flexible Spending Accounts or FSAs (also called flexible spending arrangement), relate more to use-it-before-you-lose-it type of program. An FSA comes with a tax-free account option wherein you put cash into the account in payment for specific out-of-pocket health care expenses. They are ideal for routine expenses, such as payment for cleanings at the dentist and doctor checkups. The only issue with this account is that at the end of the year, the funds that weren’t utilized will go back to your employer.

HSA: Health Savings Accounts, or HSAs, are used by taxpayers who are registered in a high-deductible health care plan. HSAs are similar to FSAs in that, at the time of deposit, they are exempt from federal income tax. Unlike an FSA, any HSA fund remaining at the end of the year may carry over to the next year.

What services are included?

As per Internal Revenue Code Section 213(d), an eligible medical expense is defined as expenses that are mainly used to prevent or alleviate stress or a physical illness or condition.
